Creating Formative Evaluations
What Are Formative Evaluations?
Formative Evaluations (also called Formal Evaluations) are summary assessments that evaluate student performance over a period of time using an Average Score Report.
This option only appears if your CompKeepr installation has the Formative/Formal Evaluations feature enabled.
Who Creates Formative Evaluations?
- Clinical Instructors — Primary creators of formative evaluations for students at their location
- School Accounts — Can also create formative evaluations
Students receive and respond to formative evaluations. Preceptors are not involved in the formative evaluation process.
How It Works
Formative Evaluations are built from an Average Score Report — CompKeepr automatically calculates averaged scores from daily evaluations within your selected date range.
Creating the Average Score Report
In Version 3:
- Go to the student's Formative Evaluations page
- Click the button to create an Average Score Report
In Version 2:
- Go to the student's Evaluations page
- Click the button to create an Average Score Report
Steps to Complete
- Select a date range for the evaluation period
- CompKeepr generates an Average Score Report with averaged scores for each category
- Review the scores — adjust if needed
- Complete any additional items (comments, etc.)
- Submit the evaluation
The student can then view their average score report.
Completion Requirements
Formative evaluations require a student reply to be marked complete:
- Student receives a notification
- Student must view and comment on the evaluation
- Once they respond, it's marked Complete
